guanajuato: day two

This is the day we went to the Mummy Museum. I don't really recommend it unless you want to have nightmares for weeks. I also do not recommend bringing your children. Ever. As they will have nightmares for months. So these mummies were bodies that had been buried and basically naturally mummified because of certain soil conditions and the dry climate of this mountainous area. I guess. I don't really know the why's and how's. All I know is that it creeped me out, my hair was standing on end, and for whatever sick reason I felt the need to photograph these things. My boys held hands through the entire museum, pretending to shoot at all those mummified bodies together in feigned bravery. We all cope in different ways.

So... ahem. Viewer discretion advised. Scroll down at your own risk for photos. Oh, and there are more pleasant photos to follow. I promise.

Are you sure you want to see these mummies?

As you wish.

I think we've been sufficiently disturbed. And I only put these on here so I would not be alone in my horrification. Share it with me, please. So moving on. We visited the cathedral located in the zocalo of the city (zocalo = the main square of a Mexican city/town).

Guanajuato is also home to a university (as seen below). Originating as the Hospice of The Holy Trinity in 1732, the institution eventually changed its name to the College of the Immaculate Conception (what?) in 1827. Eventually, it became the Universidad de Guanajuato in 1945. Thank goodness... Where do you go to school? The College of the Immaculate Conception. Que interesante.

Pete (Bruce's brother) was with us. Which worked out wonderfully for me as Bruce had to work here in Guanajuato this particular week. While Bruce went to the office during the day, Pete would help me shuffle the kids around for our two-hour-time-slot-before-they-break-down-into-tantrum-mode sight seeing. What a lifesaver. We decided to stop here at the university for a little ice cream break.

The Zocalo.

B may look okay here, but he is really about throw down with me in a super-sized whine fest. About time to go home...

So back at the hotel, this is what we did pretty much the 8 hours left in our day. M is addicted to movies.

Photobucket

L and all his paper and drawing supplies scattered everywhere.

And Pete and B watched a lot of futbol.

At sunset, I decided to run outside the castle to snap a few more pics before the light disappeared.
