fitness south of the border

Photobucket

Quarterly workshop this past weekend. Ten hours of sweaty exhilaration with 700 other people, costume changes, ear-drum-shattering music, and enough hard-core choreography to make you burn 900+ calories per hour. By nightfall, I was cramping in serious, ER kind of ways. Totally worth it. I'm a Les Mills junkie.

*I have no actual pics from the weekend. I couldn't bear the risk of my Canon Rebel left unattended.

*Pic taken at a Les Mills Super Quarterly in New Orleans, LA.

And Mexicans just add flavor to the experience. Seven-hundred-plus people doing BodyAttack in one sweltering room with water bottles and bags underfoot. The NFPA would have shut that mess down. I don't think fire codes exist here. Also, seven-hundred-plus people doing BodyAttack in one sweltering room... maybe it's the water, maybe it's the pollution, maybe it's the chile and lime, or maybe it's just that some people don't revere deodorant in the same way. Rank.

But foul odors don't get me down. I was lonely. I missed my friends. I missed experiencing the thrill with them. I missed running around snapping pictures with our favorite fitness idols and gushing over their rock star status. Here in Mexico, I have one instructor friend. Nati (on the right). And one is a lonely number.

Group fitness rock star material. Obviously. She's a master trainer here in Mexico (one of only six) and one of the "idolized." She's on stage most of the day, and when she's not, she's kindly posing for photos with crazed fans. And I can't very well go around gushing about her other five colleagues to her. The salt hath lost its savor. But someday my Spanish will improve and I and others of my kind here can move past, "Como estas?" and "Hace mucho frio, verdad?" I long for that day.

Until then... I'll just reminisce over these horribly embarrassing, sweaty pics of quarterlies and trainings past. And friends who understand the colloquial phrase 'fitness magic'...

*Canadian Master Trainer Pam put her hand on my arm?!? Thrill me!

Photobucket
*Locking sweaty arms with BodyCombat Program Directors, Dan "the Vaux" Cohen and his superlicious other half Rachel. We hyperventilated for days.

Photobucket
*Fellow fanatics.

Photobucket
*My BodyStep trainers. Eesh. These are really bad pics.

i don't know how you do it girl (i mean how DO you keep those great boobs with all the working out you do) wait that's not what i meant to say...what i meant to say is...how do you stick with it, the exercising?
ugghh, it makes me tired just looking at these pics.
i wish i could do more than just wish i was working out. i keep telling myself that one of these days i'm just gonna do it, i'm gonna get motivated and get really in shape. ahhh...someday.
way to go girl, you look super super great. love ya.

i may not yet be fluent in les mills, but i DO know that the picture with dan and rachael is probably the holy grail of the fitness world. did i tell you i may have convinced my turbo kick sister to start teaching les mills classes, too? i'm just trying to spread your gospel, noelle.

Seriously...love it. Love the chile and lime comment. I am still laughing. Missed you on Sunday though. It is just not the same without your sunny smile and personality! You truly light up every room you are in! I am glad you had fun!

are these people super human or what...sheesh. i feel i got a workout just reading. need water.
i've actually never heard of les mills. am i loser? plus jarom would never approve. he is anti-gym. despite my bum and thighs have all blended to one giving me super, long legs, and my boobs are practically concave, i guess jarom still finds me sexy enough to be afraid that men will try to "pick me up" at the gym. funny, i know.
you look great. you still look femanine. inspiring.

I keep the skinny woman trapped inside me subdued with cheesecake otherwise I'd actually be able to follow half of what you have written. There are really 'rock stars' in the fitness world? Like requests for autographs and all? Crazed fans? WOW! Call me clueless!

I swore off fitness for 10 years when I got out of the army and ended my days as a bodyguard (yea, don't laugh, hard to believe I know). I have 4 more years of splendid relaxation before I have to get back into it but you could definately inspire me...not before my 4 years are up though. I'd have to skip the Mexico classes since I REALLY like to have my space (and fresh air) when I work out.

Chili and lime...isn't that the truth? There is an ice cream place by us that has chili and lime flavored ice cream...seriously, only in Mexico.

I'd still rather know you than any of the fitness 'rock stars' any day!

I think I burned a few extra calories thinking about all the calories you burned working out for 10 hours! crazy girl. seriously--reading about that kind of working out makes me tired.

yuck yuck on the smelly gym part. I'm not sure how you endured?! Just thinking about that stench makes me gag a little....

Ew, I can almost smell the stank. Thanks for paining a visual picture that makes me want to jump into the shower. On the other hand, I will never pick a fight with you or any of your fitness friends.

Wow, Noelle. You are beyond words...
No wait, I have one: awesome. As quoted from Kung Fu Panda (& I expect you to be well versed in cartoons), you are "pure awesomeness."
