L turned five a few weeks ago, and we celebrated while we were in Guanajuato. We might have been in a restaurant with no actual birthday cake and no actual party, but the waiter did conjure up a slice of strawberry something and one candle. I finally remembered to buy him birthday presents beforehand, because he is now old enough to remind me all month long (see here and here for additional sad birthdays past). But I loved whenever he re-remembered that his birthday was coming up. "Oh mom, I'm so ess-ited! Happy Birthday, Mom!"
L is my independent soul with the imagination to keep him content and completely out of touch with the real world. Of all my children, he has the greatest passion for life. Current faves: whales, Hot Wheels, oatmeal for breakfast, drawing super heroes, Star Wars ships and walruses, writing his name in cursive over everything, and telling long-winded stories about dogs killing cats (sound effects in full force).

My very favorite is when he hugs me and says, "Mom, I love you. You're my girl." Swoon.

Wow! FIVE! I can't believe it! He is just the cutest kid ever. AND cursive?! Amazing!
Beautiful child.
Ok, I HAVE to meet him! He is so adorable, and I love learning about him! xoxox
I've been wondering if you would remember his b-day this year :)
Boyd and I loved the dog post... classic. That's the kind of thing our kids will do since they'll never have a real dog, guaranteed.
My mom told me all about the funeral; amazing that these people have lost two children. I'm glad you were able to go and support them. Our prayers have been with them.
Our Texas encounter was brief, but thanks to these blogs we get to be lifetime friends. Love you too!
i love his little cursive-writing abilities! what a star :) he is so cute. when i see you next, you'll have to explain that whole bakugan (sp?) deal--what's up with that?
