laura

Pronounced the Latino way. Rhymes with bow- [like the body language reserved for kings and queens and Asians] -OO-rah. Accent on the "u." And be sure to roll the "r." This is key.

Her baby's name is Nicólas (nee-COH-las). Tan guapo, no? Laura let me snap a few pics last week - he's one week old here. Is it just me or does he seem super gordito for one week old? Love me these Mexican babes.

Laura is one of my favorite Mexicanas here. Every expat needs a patient native with whom he or she can practice his or her Spanish. She is that friend for me. Love her dearly.

Dear, are you planning to be a baby photographer or are you getting baby hungry? Love the photos and she is a pretty lady.

i knew you would say that, mom. predictable woman. but no. neither one. and i take photos for the pure pleasure of practice. i do not charge for mediocrity.

i met this girl in argentina when i was fresh off the plane, and i thought she said her name was "shadow."

i described to her what that name meant in english, and she loooooved it.

over the weeks, getting to know her, i realized her name was not "shadow."

it was "sharon."

and that it was simply pronounced similarly to "shadow." something a veteran ex-pat would pick up on.

whoops. i didn't have the heart to tell her that her name wasn't that cool anymore. {nothing against "sharon," but...}
