Today was perfectly ordinary, as nothing extraordinary happened...
except...
...that I understood a ten-minute conversation in Spanish without straining my brain.
...that M was pleasant and fun to be with while shopping at Costco.
...that L came home from school clean and dry.
...that B started his homework right away without being asked.
...that it started pouring and thundering so I wouldn't have to take B to soccer, because I secretly did not want to take him to soccer.
...that I read a number of hilarious emails from my sisters.
...that I savored Thai food for dinner tonight with friends.
...that before the day had even begun, my prayer this morning was brimming with peaceful gratitude.
Today was a Felix Felicis day. I felt lucky.

What a wonderfully, marvelous, ordinary day!!
The best days are ordinary days noticed. Now I like the gratitude entries...I have a collection of wonderful unmemorable ordinary days that add up to a great life. I'm about to begin one, I hope. They are fleeting and require one to be observant. Recorded in journals, or blogs, they won't be forgotten.
It's September 11. We were in Greenville, NC glued to the TV in 2001. It was not an ordinary day.
those are the days you always want to remember...and really wish you had more potion. ;)
i know you enjoy photography and there is a girl who use to be in my ward who does amazing wedding photos. thought you'd like to check her out. they just make you happy...i can't remember the site...uhm, just google lindsay jane photography. awesome!
I love days like that. But if we didn't have bad days we wouldn't appreciate the good ones right? I loved your Mom's comment. What a wise woman.
We're supposed to go on a youth canoe trip tomorrow (!?) but the forecast is for freezing downpour (60 degrees, what!?). Are we bad people if we don't go? Sort of like soccer practice, but serving the youth? Bah.
i love this post.
and i like that, mom: "the best days are ordinary days noticed." that's exactly it.
i dragged myself out of bed early this morning--early and in POURING GUSHING rain--for a special class, noelle. you will be happy to hear that it was a new launching of Les Mills' BODY PUMP here at my gym. i was so excited last night, but when this morning rolled around, it was all i could do to pull myself up. the humdrum of the rain was actually whispering, "stay in bed, audrey, stay in bed."
but it was worth it. both the fabulous burn in my legs and arms, AND the coming home. i love coming home from the pouring rain, into my bubble of warm cozy. happy barefoot belén to greet me. andy, nice and huggy. hot chocolate. today is one of those perfectly ordinary days that i love. LOVE it. and the rain has not let up for one second--ongoing enya-esque background music to my perfect saturday.
days like this {mine, today} even make doing laundry feel cozy, you know?
Noelle,
You are absolutely beautiful - inside and out! Love you very much. Aunt Marie
P.S. I love the phrase - the best days are ordinary days noticed. Hope you don't mind if I share it Aud and Noelle.
I'm glad you thought to record your ordinary day, I treasure simple days like that. I think your mom might have started a new long lasting quote, I will be dropping it casually into conversations and pretending I am just that quick and enlightened. Just kidding, maybe :)
Just want you to know that I love to read your blog!!
