the barracuda diner

After two weeks trapped in obligatory house arrest, Saturday's excursion felt awesome. We found ourselves at The Barracuda Diner. Very fun with lots of mirrors, checkered tables and VH1 90s rock 'n roll on the telly. Another plus: totally empty.

Even better.

And don't ask me why L poses like that. I don't know, people. I don't know. Yesterday he was yelling "transformase, autobots!" (spanish accent included) and making transformer robot noises during Sacrament meeting with all kinds of spittle on the family behind us. He's a different cat.

These guys are so freakin' spoiled. We never got to eat like this when I was growing up. My parents always ordered us water and we'd share tiny bits of hamburger. If we even went out to eat. Forget about the fries. I didn't even know what a frosty at Wendy's was 'til I was like 16.

I mean, look at that hamburger. Ridiculous.

Never leave home without it. Especialmente en Meh-hee-co.

Ah! Fresh air...or as fresh as it can get in Mexico City. Does this mean the house arrest is over (or does the empty diner in the background say that you busted out)?
Our kids don't know how good they have it! My parent had us eating off the kiddy menu well into our teens. But now I really really want a chocolate milkshake. Thanks for making me covet.
American Soda, interesting.
Hope to see more posts with you out and about.

Yes, we did, too, have fries! We just shared the small serving between 7 of us and had lots of ketchup. And look, none of you ever got addicted to sodas. Aren't you glad you had a headstart on healthy eating?

I love Makenna's eyes. They stand out in every photo.

lol. so Luke is speaking Spanish, huh? Cute. Izzy woke up from our long car ride yesterday to drowsily look aroung & say, "llegamos!" (we arrived). Funny.
By the way, i am totally like your mom w/ the eating out thing. Tait & I will be eating gourmet sushi & while I whip out applesauce & sandwiches from home for the kids( i know. ghetto.) And the only fries they know of are sweet potatoes. & candy in our house are also known as vitamins. Haha. who would've known my kids we be so healthy (even if they were forced & semi-deprived of the good stuff)...

Holy crap, is that root beer in Mexico? We may go to Baracuda Diner for the sole reason that we can get root beer. We get it at the commissary but it's over $7 for a 12 pack. While here in the US we've already gone through several 2 liters of Barqs and Diet Barqs (the only time I give up diet coke is if diet root beer is an option). We had to be careful when I grew up overseas because you'd think you were drinking root beer, which it was, but it was alcoholic. My parents learned this the hard way when their 4 daughters had a nice buzz going. (we were either in Brazil or Peru, I can't remember)

i like imagining you all "bustin' free"...

it does look pretty empty in there. either the food is lousy or you guys are the first brave souls to venture out into swineville.

as for L... we were raised on sound of music and singin' in the rain--like you recently posted--and consequently, so were these kids. whaddaya expect? they've all got such expressive faces. love it. i miss these three. even bruce, and that serious, i'm-a-little-too-cool-to-smile-too-happy-for-the-camera look. if he had watched gene kelly and sung "annie" and held a broom to "castle on a cloud" while growing up, he might be a little free-er with his expressions too : )
