oo-la

Bruce and I watched The Time Traveler's Wife last night. Have you seen it yet? I really loved it. Bruce did, too, and all he wanted to do was hold my hand the rest of the night, because he loves me deeply. But we all know Bruce has a secret crush on love stories.

And aside from all the bum nudity (he can only time travel in the nude), I do love Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams. These are real actors. And I like real actors.

So have you seen it yet? I keep asking, because I want to talk with you about it already. If you know me, you know I like to passionately discuss my ardor for things I love. And it upsets me when I can't conversationalize (not really a word) my latest favorites with family and friends who will oo-la at all the parts I did and validate my crazy.

Sigh. It's hard to be left unvalidated. At least I still have Bruce to hold my hand... oo-la...

It s sounds like the movie was much better than the book, which was horrible and vulgar.
I agree with Laura, points for Bruce. I'll have to get it on Redbox and watch it alone because Dan is not a "chick flick" kind of guy.

oh really? it was terrible? how sad. i'd wanted to read it. oh, well. must be like how Wicked is a horrible book but a fantastic musical...

ps. i was sitting here looking at your pics and noticed how much you with the mullet looks like Luke...whoa! seriously, don't you think? crazy!
pss. what's wrong with me that i don't want to blog anymore. i go through these weird stages of disenchantment with blogging. tired of trying to invent something clever to say about pics that people probably don't even care about. uughhh, but then there's the horrible guilt though of not keeping up. can i just go back on vacation please.
smooches.

My friend said it's her favorite book, for whatever that's worth. But maybe she likes vivid & thorough descriptions of bums?

I've had several friends say that the movie made them spiral into a deep depression. I'm susceptible to such things. Thoughts? I feel like I shouldn't stay in bed all week long.

oh kathryn, you're a funny girl. as for the spiraling into a deep depression part, not for me, no. but it did make me reflect on the nature of relationships.

i loved how time traveling was not the core of the story. it was treated as more of an element - as if he had a sickness or disease or handicap of some sort. he can travel uncontrollably and for indefinite periods of time, which can be like a parallel for the distance and disconnection that can sometimes happen in relationships.

also, it made me think of how in a marriage or when you've been with someone so long that your lives become intertwined, their memories become your memories, and you forget what life was like before they came along...

anyway! i'll save it for book club.

shaun - keep blogging. i know what you mean, but do it for me, babe. do it for me. i miss you so.

I guess I should clarify why I called it a vulgar book. It's the language.
Really foul slang was used for certain "acts" and body parts. And after he dies Claire does something she hates herself for, but I had to skip past it because it was a little too "colorful" for my taste.
Maybe I'm just a prude, but the language killed any desire for the meat of the story line.

no, i am with you, linz. if the language is crude and vulgar, it ruins everything. i am all about the written word, and when people can cleverly, articulately, intelligently convey a message - happy day.

when they can't, it's physically painful. and she does something she regrets??? that wasn't in the movie. and i don't want to know it! it sounds like the movie was much better.
