our first outing

Photobucket

Not my best shot. My arm looks mannish. Can't stop looking at it, can you? I'm providing depth perception here. EZ will be two weeks old tomorrow. It goes too fast.

He's exhausted from our outing this morning. Our very first outing since birth. I even put on my pre-pregnancy (non-skinny) jeans instead of my usual black sweat pants. We made our way to the U.S. Embassy this morning to get our little Mexican a U.S. birth certificate and passport. Getting that passport picture was a serious ordeal. Like his eyes had to be open and his head had to stay up on its own - two things that are kind of impossible for him right now.

Our first attempt happened in a sketchy little hole in the wall near the Embassy and the "photographer" kept putting his dirty, sausage-finger hands all over my son's face, trying to get it to stay up. We also had to lay EZ on the grossest "white" towel ever and I did my best to avoid thinking about the last time that thing had been washed. It will be a miracle if he doesn't wake up with Rubella tomorrow.

We desperately splashed water on his face, undressed him and bounced him around in the chilly morning air in an effort to wake him. All in vain. Seriously, it will be a miracle if he doesn't wake up with Diphtheria tomorrow.

Our second (more successful) attempt happened in the Embassy passport office under slightly more sanitary conditions. I wish we'd known about this service before we exposed our child to a plethora of street germs.

Anyway, it's done. He's exhausted and I'm exhausted - mostly from trying to hold in my panza all day. Excuse me while I change back into my black sweat pants.

You look wonderful!! I hate you just a little bit for looking so good after just having a baby! Hope you get some sleep tonight!

Ahh. He is so cute. I want to squeeze him! And ew, germy strangers always make for an unfortunate experience. But at least it's done :)

Babe, you're funny on paper, for sure. I love your perspective on things and the way you write them up. Can't wait to see that grandson.

I think you are an awesome writer noelle --- wish I had your talent.

And Isaac is the best baby...cute as a button and his Nick-name EZ fits him already. He is as patient, calm and snuggly as PeteO (Owen). He's a keeper.
