go scrounge

I didn't feel like cooking tonight, so Bruce made what he always makes when I don't cook. An egg omelet. However, there were not enough eggs to go around. Me, being the sacrificing mom that I am, opted to let everyone else share this egg omelet made by Dad, and I said I would just eat cereal. The following conversation ensued.

B: Why are you just going to eat cereal?

Dad: Mom likes to eat a lot of cereal. That's why she doesn't have lots of energy. (Haha. Very funny, Bruce.)

Me: I want you guys to eat the eggs so you can be big and strong. I'm done growing, so it doesn't matter for me.

B: You're done growing?!? But you're so much smaller than the other moms!

Me: Um, well... yeah. I ate too much cereal when I was growing up, so I didn't grow very big.

B: Why did you eat so much cereal?

Me: Er... my mom didn't cook very much, so I ate a lot of cereal.

B: That's pretty sad. Did you ever tell her?

Children are like microscopes that magnify all your idiosyncrasies and make semi-bad habits look illegal. Mom, if you're reading this, so sorry I used you as a scapegoat for this one. I do remember you cooking on two very distinct occasions. However, the words "go scrounge" seem to be clearly embedded in my childhood memories as a popular phrase in our household.

Oh how I love your mom, I do! I think "go scrounge" will be my new motto, I know I'll be telling my kids that, cooking is just too time consuming!

That is a great picture of Bryson!
If you only new the scrounging we do around here. I think we have eggs for dinner at least once a week. The question that gets asked at our house is from Cameron "Why is Daddy having Pop and we have to have milk or water?" Makena's answer..."because Daddy is not very healthy sometimes and we have to grow big and strong." Hmmm, where'd she hear that.

How funny that B notices that you are shorter than most. I remember you making pancakes on Sunday...but I also remember when your family had Thanksgiving at our house and your mom bragged about how she hadn't made a single dish...she was so proud of her deligation skills. And cereals are fortified!

I loved your story...I am the one at our house that has to have "meat" atleast once a day and Bryce and Eric would be happy eating cereal breakfast, lunch, dinner, breakfast, lunch... you get my point. We have to have a "cereal limit" at our house!
