Season DVD Sickness

We currently have Season 2 of Grey's Anatomy lined up in our blockbuster queue. And once we get the next set of DVDs in the mail, I know Bruce and I won't be sleeping. "One more?" is what we always say. Meaning, let's just keep watching until we run out of episodes, even though it's 3 a.m. and the kids will be getting up about 3 hours from now. It's a sad sickness. This unquenchable need to know what happens next. Although, I blame Peter (Bruce's brother) for getting us on these TV season episode marathons. It all started with Smallville. But wait, let me backtrack...

So Bruce and I have never had television or cable or whatever our entire married life, except for this one summer we spent at UVA while Bruce was getting his MAC and the firm put us up in corporate housing. Not necessarily because we're cheap, but we're like veggies in front of the TV. With no TV, theoretically we feel like we read more, play with our kids more, get more things done, etc. "Theoretically" being the key word.

But then one day, Pete showed up. I was giving birth to Luke in four days and he had come to help out, also bringing Season 1 of Smallville with him. We were hooked. Bryson was so neglected those last four days he would be an only child. I didn't sleep at all those last four days before having a newborn in the house again, but I didn't care because I had to know if Lana and Clark would get together in the next episode. We kept doing the "one more?" thing. I had a scheduled c-section at 6:00 a.m. and we were still watching the last episode of Smallville at 2 a.m. So then Luke was born, but we still had to catch up and watch the rest of the Smallville seasons. And I'm thinking this could really explain why Luke is the way he is... in any case, we ran out of episodes to watch and we were safe for a time.

Then, someone got us started on Lost. If you look to the right, you'll notice my fellow bloggers are referred to as "The Others". What was the deal with this crazy island and who kidnapped the pregnant chic? And what was Kate's story? Well, we kept watching to wee hours of the morning because we had to know.

Then, Pete moved here to Houston. And he showed Bruce and I how to watch the full episodes of ALL KINDS of TV shows on the Internet. Woah. Such a mistake. And sure, we could live without cable, but who can live without DSL? The temptation stares us in the face everytime we get on to check our email and we find ourselves typing in www.abc.com. We've gone through Heroes, Life, Bionic Woman, and we are currently backtracking through the Grey's Anatomy seasons that are currently out on DVD.

We're sick. We know it. But I still blame Pete.
