patience

Last night, for Family Home Evening, Bruce set out a mini donut on a napkin in front of each of our kids (minus EZ, of course). "This donut is for you," he announced. "You can eat it right now if you want to. But if you don't eat it right now and wait until Family Home Evening is over, you can have two!"

B, of course, had no trouble waiting. He's too cool for donuts these days. L's eyes lit up just at the idea of anticipation for a second donut. But M... we knew it would be hard for M. Her sugar addiction is epic. However, though she leaned in close to the soft, spongy cake, took a big sniff, and stuck her tongue out just a few millimeters from its delectable surface... she waited.

And while we waited, we watched this:

Shoot. I tear up every time. God is in the very details of our lives. Not just aware. Not even just mindful. But actively engaged in our eternal success.

And if we're patient enough, we'll get that second little donut (or marshmallow). Heck, maybe both. Happy.
