what day is it?

Photobucket

Bruce and I had a conversation this morning that went something like this:

Me: "So what do you wanna eat this week? Let's make a menu. Okay, today is Thursday, so..."

Bruce: "Today is not Thursday. Today is Friday."

Me: "No, today is Thursday. Tomorrow is Friday."

Bruce: "No, Noelle. I am telling you. Today is Friday."

B (super nosy eavesdropper): "Yeah. Mom. Today is Friday!"

Me: "No, wait. Because Monday we went to our doctor's appointment, Tuesday we went to Club Mundet, Wednesday we went to Lincoln Park, oh... and yesterday you guys went to the Children's Museum. Yeah, okay."

The days and hours are blending together. I don't know who I am or what I've done anymore. I barely remember that the last time I fed EZ was at 12:30pm this afternoon and I better publish this post before it's time for him to eat again. I can't even believe EZ is three weeks old today. At his well check-up on Monday, he was already 8 pounds. Slow down, life.

So a lot of you have been asking me how I'm doing. And your questions go something like this: "Noelle, how are you? No really, how are you?"

Well, the part where I'm a mother is doing pretty well. We've done this three times before, so you know. It's kind of like riding a bike. Although, when I was first learning how to ride a two-wheeler, my dad took me to the top of a hill in our neighborhood in Silver Spring, MD, and there was a thorn tree at the bottom of that hill, right in front of our red-brick townhouse. For some unfathomable reason, he let go of me halfway down that hill, and let's just say the thorn tree and I connected in unforgettable (and unforgivable) ways. Thanks a lot, Phil. But I survived. Like I survived being a first-time mother. (And I think that thorn tree was shortly removed from the premises).

So EZ and I? It's in the bag. We've got this. Mom has done it before, so we're cool and coasting. I don't need the handlebars (e.g., What to Expect The First Year) anymore. No time for myself? I'm over it. Round the clock feedings? Please. Diaper changes, sponge baths, projectile vomiting? Been there, done that, getting it done now.

But there's one hang-up I just can't get over no matter how many times I've gone through it before. Some people are addicted to Dr. Pepper. Some people are addicted to shopping. I am addicted to exercise. Those first four to six weeks after a c-section are torture for me. It's the same every time, and my body stresses. I can't relax about it. Like I am currently breaking out in rashy eczema patches all over the place. It's a serious problem. And also, Bruce bought cheese puff balls and licorice at Costco the other day. Cheese puff balls and licorice in bulk. I scoffed at him, but guess who's been dipping her hand in that snack bowl every night during EZ's 8pm feeding while watching Modern Family or Leverage on the iPad. Ay me. I need to work out to support my eating habits, people.

But I will survive (dramatic fist pump). And when I get in my first lung-burning run post-baby, you - and maybe Facebook - will be the first to know.

Does he have red hair? I've always wanted a child with red hair? Is there a red sheen? Can't wait to see you all.

mom, i think he has papa's coloring. the hair, possibly the hazel-ish eyes. hopefully not the glow-in-the-dark skin, but it doesn't look promising.

Addicted to exercise? Really? Man, I so did not get that Elizan gene. I'm more of a shopping & Lorna Doone cookie addict myself. Hence why you will live till your 99 & I might make it to around... 64.

I wish I was addicted to exercise. Instead, I am addicted to TV. We will soon be raising media addicted children.

You have some gorgeous children! We are so excited for you. Did you know that the baby (Lilly) on Modern Family is a twin. Sandy just read that to me as I am typing this message. She says hello. I am sure Mike and Derek would also say hello, but they have yet to wake up!

I will do a short run tomorrow in your honor! P.S. you look awesome!

Noelle, don't give up you are half way done your 6 week sit on your butt-athon! Just think you need this time to heal or you could hurt yourself and then be up a creek! Some of us would like to have a reason as to why they are not working out (me for one) and not having to run mile after mile for a half marathon. There is on at the end of Janurary if you'd like to join us! But if you beat me i'll kick you out of jealousy.

i wanna feel for you, but i just can't...EXERCISE....really, that's it...that's all you long for and miss from your previously perfect structured and routined life?!? ugh. no sympathy from this woman. in fact, I sorta wanna die when you say things like that, being that i've ran/walked, sorta tried to move in an exercise like way about 5 times since i got pregnant this time. i did have the best of intentions though...you know me.
anywho, the bright side is, you don't even need exercise, you look great and beautiful and teeny weeny again already! smooches, love ya.
