Like I just wanna hug 'em and squeeze 'em (the guy in the middle, too). This is Bruce with his mission president and his mission president's wife. For two years, they were his pseudo-parents in a foreign land with a foreign language.
Bruce served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Dominican Republic back in '97 to '99. This is how he learned what I like to call his slurred ghetto Spanglish. This is also why we now find ourselves residing in Mexico City, because someone found out about his slurred ghetto Spanglish fluency. Aren't we lucky. (Though teaching people about Jesus Christ in Spanish is a little different than doing mergers and acquisitions in Spanish, no? He went through a nice little 6-month learning curve when we first got here.)
His mission president is actually from Mexico City, but they move to Oaxaca at the end of this month. So we had them over a few weeks ago for a BBQ with their granddaughter and her family. Here they are reminiscing over Bruce's mission scrapbooks (that his sister, Kauti, put together when he came home - she is the best).

Bruce spent maybe seven months of his mission in the office as the president's secretary, and he holds this darling little couple close to his heart. They will always be dear to him.
