Just one example of Mexican signage. It's like they want you to get lost.

We rode horses up a mountain to this little spot where all the butterflies congregated.
All the little white/orange leaf-looking things covering the tree are the butterflies. Thousands of them fluttering around.
After mating, the male butterflies fall to the ground and remain immobile as if dead. I could go somewhere with this... I'll refrain. Although, I think this one really is dead.
Bruce, in conversation with a tour guide. Body language decoder: when his mouth is open while you're talking to him, it means he's incredibly interested in what you have to say. Beware of the closed mouth convo.
I think these guys had the most fun with these sticks.

Nothing like an impromptu tailgate party with ham sandwiches and Minute Maid juice boxes. Getting ready to head another 30 minutes through the mountain to Valle de Bravo. Walkie-talkie usage = best day ever for B.

Valle de Bravo. Loved these rooftops. I took 20 pictures of rooftops.
The view from the restaurant.
Why don't my kids do this? See above pic for confirmation of how we usually roll.
Checking out the para-gliders.

It started snowing and sleeting on our way back home through the mountain. Snow in Mexico?!? I couldn't stop taking pictures. And because Mexican drivers are some of the worst drivers in the world, there were about six accidents through a 15-mile stretch and several cars that had spun off the road. We were forced to remain behind this yellow truck through those 15 miles going about 4 miles an hour. For those who know Bruce, this was the most excruciating kind of torture.

See that car on the side of the road? Holding up traffic because everyone and their mother had to stop and look.
Oh, but here come the Mexicans to lift the car back onto the road... forget the towing service.
Congratulating themselves on their rico masculinity and suave car-lifting abilities.
How will we ever leave this place?

YAY for butterflies. We had so much fun and I love that picture of Wendy Pratt...that is great. My kids are also like M...if you haven't noticed. Wow, I am glad we left five minutes before you guys and had no snow. We just had the lightning that blew the tree (and almost us) to bits. You took awesome pictures. I want some!
Wow -- the butterflies look incredible! What an amazing experience. And I was equally amazed by the pictures of the traffic and the road signs - wow. :-)
I LOVE all the beautiful pics! Bryson looks so cute on the horse...what a grown-up!!! The butterflies in the trees are amazing--a little creepy--but mostly amazing :) What a fun trip. Yeah, my kids are never the ones to fall asleep anywhere either--they look a lot like Makenna..... The traffic must have been excruciatingly painful for you guys--esp. Bruce! I am glad you guys are having fun exploring mexico. we shall come visit soon!!! love you
truly amazing...just think of all the cool things you're getting to see and experience... it should make up for all the crapy stuff (most of the time). fav pic = bruce with mouth hanging open. brent takes on the same "open mouth weirdness" when watching "how it's made" on the discovery channel.
That looks like quite an adventure on so many levels. Although I'm sure I would happily go along an such a trip, the massive amounts of butterflies remind me of the movie "The Birds". I'm not good with massive amounts of anything. Second, snow? I think that's worthy of a "what the heck?" Third, that traffic would kill my buzz (I'm reading New Moon and remembered the list of your favorite quotes).
so many little gems in this one noelle. where do i begin..
males butterflies after mating... remember that superficial wavelength we both surf? i think we surf the same humor wavelength too, heh.
wish i could've seen this place... looks insane.
is b wearing shorts in february? maybe i miss mexico a lot more than i thought.
love love love that picture of little m sporting the headband. aDORable.
bruce in a car? matthew can relate... like cornering a wet cat.
i think mexicans are among the most resourceful creatures on the planet. no tow-truck? no problemo. i think americans would just stand around on their cell phones and complain.
miss you!
haha. after reading this post, i was like, mm i love this post--where do i begin? and then i read erin's comment. she read my mind. on everything. everything from the mating to the shorts in february to m's headband to the mexican resourcefulness : ) i love you, erin.
as for you, noey, i wish you had time to post all the time--or rather, i wish i could zap myself over to your place whenever i wanted. and i want. i miss you guys. see you in a fewwww!!!!
Catching up on your blog! I can't believe we missed so much! Looks like your butterfly trip was a lot more exciting than ours although we did have fun "camping out" over night. We need to go to Valle de Bravo next year and forget about the other ones further north.
