bye-bye, glasses!

I went and got LASIK surgery yesterday! Woo-hoo! It was a fairly quick and painless process. They brought me into the operating room where they put a whole bunch of drops in my eye, gave me some valium and stuck me on the operating table. When they taped my eyelid back and clamped this plastic thing over my eyeball, I sort of went into freak-out mode. I started grinding my teeth together to keep from screaming out (and/or throwing up), and I had to clench my hands in a tight fist in the pocket of my hoodie to stop from punching anything or anyone. "Look into the red light," they said, and I tried to think of something - anything - but the fact that they were lasering my eyeball. When they removed a flap of my cornea, everything went dim except for a small white light, and I wondered if this is what it felt like to die. And don't even get me started on the burning smell...

But after five minutes of total anxiety, I went home and took a nap. Today, I have 20/20 vision! It's a miracle, people. I highly recommend it. I've been legally blind since I was 12. My previous outrageous prescriptions made optometrists look twice. I love, love, LOVE modern technology. Goodbye glasses!

Someday, Someday! I dream of the day I won't have to wear glasses to see any more. I'm all for Lasik!

So I just caught up on your blog. Your dad's sunglasses are way cool compared to whatever my dad decides to wear. He'll pick up whatever he finds and just put it on no matter what it looks like. It's funny to watch dad's turn into grandpas:-)
And. . . . I think I remember having a humongous crush on your cousin Trevor when we were little. I remember when he came to visit you.

When do you guys leave for Mexico??? Please tell me you'll still be able to blog!
PS- You made me laugh so hard at the comment you left me. I definitely did not go mountain biking with Tucker in a baby bjorn. I just stole some guys bike and took a picture:-)

Yay for you Noelle! The whole being awake during surgery thing creeps me out big time.
Way to be brave (tons braver than me, that's why I haven't done it yet!)

Yea, Noelle! I'm jealous! I have thought about doing Lasik, but haven't decided if I'm brave enough. Brian had it done several years ago and loves it (he remembers the burning smell too!). I'm so happy for you! Maybe someday...

three down (you, me, and papa), four blind bryants to go...actually, nate's not as blind as the rest of us...

when they did my eyes, they taped it and gave me a dvd of the whole thing. did they do that for you? kinda creepy seeing them peel an eyeball back. sick. nevertheless--i can see : ) now we can go camping without having to drag along contact stuff. no more sleeping in our lenses (spelling?) and having tired eyes in the morning. danielle told me that when we do that, we're suffocating our cells and making an eye graveyard of dead cells. eh.

anyways. so glad you made it through your anxiety : ) xoxo.

ps. don't forget to call me in the airport on your way to mexico. i want to hear your voice making the transition from one world to another : )

Yea! I had Lasik about 3 years ago and it is so wierd when I see people with their glasses and contacts. I can't believe I did that for soooo many years and now I just never even think about it. I recommend it to anyone that is a good candidate. I couldn't believe how fast it was. Definitely the worst part for me was the burning smell!!! I can still remember it. Oh and I was so anxious that my BP was way too high and they almost didn't let me go through with it. I had to keep breathing and take it again until it went down some.

Good for you. Heaven knows you deserve lasiks! Now maybe all those pictures I have of you in glasses are considered collectables. At least I still have the memories of guiding you up the path to the bathroom at girls camp because you'd taken out your contacts.

I'm glad to hear your success story! I will have lasik one day when a) zach finally gets a job and maybe we have money and b)i hear of enough people who have had it and aren't permanently blinded. I have a feeling condition b will be fufilled long before condition a. bummer...
