released

Photobucket

After two years, I was released from my calling* as Primary President this morning. I was both more sad and more relieved than I realized I would be. Sad, of course, because I know I will miss being with the children each Sunday, and relieved, because I will no longer be running around like a chicken with my head cut off every Sunday trying to make sure we have teachers for every class or that there are no children escaping out the door and out into the street, getting run over by cars, etc. When I told the children that I would no longer be with them in Primary each Sunday, one little boy asked, "Where are you going? Are you... are you... dying??" Oh. So gonna miss them.

It's not easy to be in Primary. It makes for a very exhausting Sunday, and those afternoon naps are well-earned. But the Savior said, "Suffer the little children to come unto me" (Mark 10:14). He meant it literally in the context of that scripture as well as figuratively and spiritually. And He meant for us to follow His example. Children have an innate sense of who truly loves and cares for them. They cannot be fooled. And when they look back on their Primary days, I think they will remember less of the fan-fare and more of the feelings that were present in that Primary room and in their classrooms each Sunday. On many occasions, I have felt that Primary was the best place for an adult to learn the gospel, because one must learn and know the gospel really well in order to teach and break it down into its basic, core principles.

So I've had the opportunity to serve in Relief Society, in Young Women, in Sunday School, and in Primary on several different occasions. One calling I've never had? Ward Activities Director. Take a guess as to my new calling. I told the Bishop I don't do parties. I mean, shoot. I don't even really throw birthday parties for my kids (I like to keep their expectations, er... low or something). And apparently Someone Else thinks that is pretty pathetic...

I absolutely cannot believe it has been two years. Wow! Good luck in your new calling. You are great in all your callings, so I'm sure this one will be no different. =) Party Girl. ;)

Oh, I am so glad you have been released! You did such an excellent job, I am not exactly sure how they are going to survive without you, but you deserve the break! So, who is the new lucky primary president? I am sure whoever it is will do an excellent job! As you will with your new calling. BBQ chicken and cornbread all around! : )

well, your days of running a small country have come to an end! I am sure you did a wonderful job and have earned a well-deserved break :) activities committee, eh? not too shabby. they don't do as many ward activities nowadays (so it seems). halloween, sometimes christmas. maybe you guys will do more than that. i think the challenge ahead of you will be to do cool activities on a shoestring budget (so I have heard). but you will do a great job!

noey, maybe they've heard about the amazing birthday parties you have with your kids each year.
: )

p.s. you don't know how to be mediocre at anything.
maybe i'll grow up to be like you one day.

I can't believe it's been two years! Congratulations on the release and the new calling (YIKES). It sounds like as long as you have plates and utensils at the activities it'll be a step up.

I've been on the ward activites committee before and I would have loved to have you as a director! People go way overboard with those activities and it's so not necessary. And I am a bad party planner myself, I like the bare bones.
