Saturday, we attended another birthday party for a kid in B's class, about 2 hours away in Valle de Bravo at this cozy little ranch. When I say cozy, I really mean six bedrooms and six bathrooms.
And straight up Mexican. Loved it. The ranch was teeming with animal life, which was a sort of awesome heaven for L who feels at one with all creatures great and small. He was especially at home in the bunny hatch until one little bunny scratched his leg and he decided the bunnies were out to get him.
The boys spent 95 percent of their time riding these docile, pony-like horses around the ranch and affectionately patting their necks and behinds in little cowboy-like gestures. Most of the time without an adult guiding the horse. Liability issues don't seem to be issues here. Kinda goes along with the whole "red lights are optional" thing. Maybe I should've cared, but I must be acclimating.

Where Bruce is, M is.
But back to the piñata, the real highlight here. There must have been 10 kilos of candy in this thing.
Here are a few videos of B and L going at it. The song they're singing is the song always sung during someone's turn at the piñata. Take note of the birthday boy running in halfway to grab T. Rex's foot - another limb to hold his stash.
This kid is my new piñata hero. Showed everyone how it's done. Plus, his name is Marcelo. Almost as cool as the name Máximo, another kid in B's class. If I ever had another boy, I'd be all over these Spanish names. But I'll save my rave for another post. Back to the video... and Mexicans wonder why violence is such an issue here.
Recap of the day. B's wasted and L's on a sugar high. You'll notice L communicates at one decibel and one decibel only. We think he was born with some kind of birth defect in his vocal chords that inhibits his ability to whisper. Shushing is futile.

noelle you crack me up, i love the videos. especially the boy beating the pinata to death...looks like something maddie would be capable of. anyway, glad you're getting to know some folks down there...which reminds me...how did teaching at the gym go? love ya
Luke is so cute! He is so teeny and squeaky and cute! I miss him riding in the back of my car sucking his thumb.
What a great post! My favorite was at the end when L was like, "BEARS, huh, huh!" I don't know why that struck me funny.
Your kids are just adorable, and they look like they are totally immersed in the Mexican culture now (broken off limbs and all :) ).
I don't know why I every worried about you moving to Mexico. Your posts make me want to move to Mexico.
That birthday party puts anything I've been to to shame.
It's weird to see you write "Kilos". I feel like I need to reorient you to "America".
Your little guys are so cute!!! I love that last video of them:-)
I was wondering why in the world you would drive two hours to go to a birthday party and then I saw how much fun you guys had. What a great party! And the ranch is beautiful. I agree with Melissa- you are making me want to move to Mexico!
I just have one question- Do they put candy in their pinatas down there or is that just an american thing? I didn't see any candy come out?
oh, i should have mentioned that parties here last for HOURS... sometimes overnight. this was an overnight party, but we were the party-pooper americanos that left mega early - and we were there for 6 hours.
Noelle, "Ready to learn, to get some Knowledge" is from Finding Nemo at the beginning when they are on their way to the first day of school. It drives me insane when I can't figure out where something is from too. :)
It looks like you guys are finding a lot of fun things to do. Luke is so cute!! I love listening to him talk.
haha Noelle--I just laughed so hard at the whole pinata thing. That was great! I am glad they all had fun at the party. Bryson looks so old now. And Lukie too. I can't wait to see them!
Looks like a ton of fun! Loved the pictures and the videos are too cute! That's funny you were there for 6 hours and were the party-poopers who left early.
i love how Bruce tries to shush Luke at the end of that video. i guess he and ryan still have something in common - the inability to talk at a normal level. I am glad to see that you guys are doing so AWESOME! keep up the great posts...that's more than i can say about our blog - we are still stuck in the winter of '08.
I miss having you all at arms length!!! B is still a minnie Bruce, M is huge and gorgeous, just like her Mama. And then there is Luke!!!! I now remember why it was such love at first sight with him! I could truly eat him up. He is a goofy free spirit and he makes me laugh so much that my cheeks start to hurt. LOVE IT!!!!!
so bruce going shhhhh as the walks buy... lol... M must have been asleep... lol i can totally hear in my head bruce doing that lol
