creepy man vibe

You know that feeling you get when you're in close proximity with a dirty mind. I've been getting that vibe a lot here. Not that there weren't plenty of creepy instances in the U.S. But maybe it's more noticeable now as discretion was never a Latino forté. (These are the same people that protest in the nude, right?)

But the other day, some hombre was staring/leering at me out of an apartment window while I was at the playground with the kids. There was maybe 15 feet between us and, of course, a sheet of glass. No shame, no attempt at discretion. He wasn't even pretending to do anything else but ogle. Plus, he was sporting a wife-beater T, which really added to the noir ambiance of the moment. After about five minutes, I was really starting to get irked, so I gave him the stink-eye. But then he smiled. And kept staring... creepy man vibe in full swing.

I'm not a violent person. I'm not. Even if I do teach BodyCombat. But if there hadn't been one story and a sheet of glass between us, I might have tried to go punch that dude and roundhouse kick his face. Finally I just grabbed the kids and made a run for the elevator. I was telling Bruce about this later, and in reference to the crusty look I shot him, his conclusion: "He probably just thought you were coming on to him." How chivalrous of Bruce to assure me in my moment of panic. Do I have a moral to this story? Not unless you want verification that creepy men are a universal problem that spans cultures and geographical boundaries. That and the superfluous knowledge that crusty looks help no one when interpreted by the minds of the sick and twisted.

gah! was he ogling from an apartment that's under construction on the first/second floor? cos i've noticed those hombres when i've been at your compound. sick sick sick. i'd say give him the double-deuce bird, but he'd prolly misconstrue that as a come-on, too.

EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! I'm know you could have taken him, so he's lucky he had that glass to protect him. Bruce, no bueno.

yes, erin. it was one of the sketchy lot of hombres. and for sure he'd think i was giving him the go-ahead if i flipped him off. you know how these mexicans gesture "thank you" here... too close. a little too close.

At the park a few weeks ago there was a guy up in one of the trees that the kids commonly play around. I deffinitely got the creepy man vibe. Yeah, we didn't stay long.

Hey Noelle -

You're in Mexico City? Crazy. I tried to research what brought you there on your blog but I couldn't find it. So what brought you there? Thanks for your comments on my blog. I do talk to Dan Summers. He lives in Florida and is a Drug Enforcement Agent (DEA). It's crazy. He's got some sweet stories. A lot more exciting than running nursing homes. Anyway, email me at cgreen@legacyhealthcare.com and we can get more caught up. Also I have my own blog: http://jumpingturtle.blogspot.com

I hate that. I am sure that you could take him. Keep the creeps behind the glass.

If only we could keep all creeps behind bars instead of just a little sheet of glass and no protection between you and your kids.
Seriously- there aren't very many things in this world that tick me off more than creepy, nasty men.
It's funny how tough we can be when you are suddenly faced with a situation where you might have to protect your kids. Those mama bear instincts kick in and i have no doubt you could take any guy out. That's so scary and don't worry- JC would have responded the same way Bruce did.

on another note, i love how you always have a song that goes along with your most recent blog. love it! i might become a copycat!

I think I just spent the best hour of the day today reading your blog. GREAT reading and you couldn't paint a better picture of Mexico. My personal favorite was the description for the family picture you took (guy half dressed...sketchy powder in one hand...onsie hanging out). As for the asqueroso, just fake a dry heave as a response next time he checks you out and see what that does. Don't know any culture where that's a come on...then again, you never know here.

'Nother note, on one of your previous blogs you mention there isn't any brown sugar here. There is actually tons and some of it is even better than what you find in the states. Next time you come over I'll show you what it looks like so you can stock up when you are out of the stuff you stocked up on from the States.

I'll remember to check the commissary for Life cereal next time I'm there...cinnamon or regular? (You know they now have maple & brown sugar flavor??? It's good stuff)
