When I first met Bruce, he was really into acronyms. He always used to end little notes he'd write to me with things like "URMF" (u r my favorite). "BMOC" was another fave (big man on campus). Or maybe this was just Pete's pet name for his little brother. The worst was "SOB" - I know what you're thinking. My thoughts exactly until he clarified that it stood for "straight off the boat" - more specifically "straight-off-the-boat-ASIANS". He spent high school in England and then he spent two years in the Dominican Republic, so I had to re-acclimate him to the status of political-incorrectness and/or offensive slang back in America. He's always been prejudiced against his own race. I can hardly believe he married me. His favorite story to tell is when he first saw me walk into our Stats 221 Class at BYU. While he thought I was cute, his second thought was, "Huh. Wonder if she speaks English." Then I said the prayer at the beginning of class one day, and he's all, "Sweet! She speaks English!" And he made his move. What a goober. He thinks this story is so hilarious.
Oops, I'm supposed to be giving this guy some love. Truthfully, I think he's the best ever - and surely the fact that I followed the dude willingly (mostly) to Mexico City is manifestation enough of my love and adoration, right? I'm really glad he didn't let my ethnic tendencies or his prejudices get in the way of love. Usually I'm still mortified by the ridiculous things that come out of his mouth in public places, although the dumbfounded shock has worn off with time. But mostly I love being his number one as it's a very cozy place to be. BMOC, URMF.

okay so i totally remember the first time Bruce came to the door...i think he was wearing sandals, corduroys, and a plaid shirt. I then remember thinking "man this guy'd be lucky to get a second date!" but I have to say that between his unique story telling ability, the running man and devilishly good looks (of course)....he TOTALLY turned out to be a keeper. also, thanks to Bruce i still say "straight of the boat" at least once per week (seriously)! bruce--"you da man!"
Loved your story, Noelle! You make me laugh and I love to hear about how people met. For some reason, I can totally see Bruce as a big acronym guy!
heartwarming. hilarious how you met.
bruce and matt are peas in a pod. matt calls me his S.O. (significant other), and i don't mind it so much... it's when he starts to send me meeting notices for dates that i get a bit miffed.
I love YOUR posts! You always make me laugh, and I love this story. You two are an adorable couple and I haven't even met Bruce! All I know is that he is one lucky guy who seems to really make you happy:-) I love it!
I loved hearing more about Bruce. For some reason, I never heard that story. I keep learning more about you guys all the time!
You are a great wife and MOM! I have to say that you were my inspiration for getting my kids to learn to sleep early on when they were babies. You saved my life!!
Now can you just tell me a trick for keeping little boys from wandering off!
I remember when my mom told me a Philipino (sp) family had moved into the branch my first thought was...she's going to follow me around because she doesn't speak english (I was a 7th grader at the time so I excuse my ignorance). Then you walked in and said, "Hay, babe, what's up." and I sighed a sigh of relief.
I love Bruce. I remember you having to overcome the fact that his name was Bruce.
He cracks me up. One time I was trying to get the point across that I wanted you to call me back ASAP and he said, "I hear ya barkin' big dawg." It sounds like he's still your Captain Moroni.
When we were young and trying to imagen who we'd all marry I know that Bruce wasn't the guy you talked about, (sorry bruce). But now who else COULD you be married to!!! Perfectly fit together, and it sounds like everyone else agrees with me!
haha noelle. I have totally forgotten about the whole SOB thing. You guys make me laugh.
You guys seriously crack me up...
haaa. acronyms. so bruce. sob is definitely a winner. in fact, i associate that whole concept with him and his family. i swear they said that phrase or abbreviation at least every other sentence.
i gotta think of a good one for andy. i can't call him my m (minimalist). that's too minimal. hmmm. you'll have to help me think of one.
