EZ was diagnosed with a mild form of hydronephrosis while in utero, which means one of his kidneys was slightly dilated due perhaps to an obstruction or abnormality in the ureter which leads to the bladder. It is a fairly common anomaly in newborns (occurring in about 1 in every 100) and more often in males. We were hoping it would correct itself when he was born, but a few days ago, we went back to the pediatric urologist for a sonogram and the kidney is still dilated. We will have to do a few more tests to determine the cause, but it seems surgery might be necessary.
B loves his little brother very much and looks forward every day to taking care of and cuddling with him when he gets home from school. When I told him EZ's kidney was still a little broken and might need surgery, B's face fell. Ever since we first found out about EZ's kidney abnormality, he and L had been praying every night that it would be fixed. But today was B's first fast and testimony Sunday since being baptized, and without any encouragement or suggestion from either me or Bruce, he decided he wanted to fast for his little brother. He told me this a few days ago. I thought he might forget, but this morning he came to my bed and told me he wasn't going to eat breakfast. Of course he didn't forget. I should have known. When he finished fasting, he told me that every time he started to feel hungry, he thought about EZ and how he wanted him to get better.
I love each of my children, but to witness their love and concern for each other brings inexpressible joy. I am grateful for B's faithful, 8-year-old heart and the love he has for his baby brother. His faithfulness is a great example to me. And I hope that as my children continue to grow and experience life that they will always be there for each other. They're so lucky I sacrificed my body to have four of them... ha.

Oh, so sad! I hope everything works out and if he does indeed need surgery, all will go well. Thankfully he has excellent siblings who have been taught by their amazing parents! I am in awe of you every day. Not many eight year olds would do that. You are an amazing mama and such an example to the rest of us! Our prayers are added to B's.
Sweetest B! That is such a great story of faith. Hope that things go well for EZ. We will say prayers for him too.
What a good boy. I hope EZ has a miracle for him and you. But if not, he has a great family to take care of him after surgery. Claire had surgery at 18 mon. and it wasn't nearly as bad as I imagined. She was up and about that evening.
Clearly you guys are good parents--what a sweet brother!
poor EZ:( he's little though, better now than later i guess...just think two year old having surgery, then it doesn't seem as bad. or is that just because i have a two year old;) poor guy...poor you:( sorry.
what good kids you have noelle... thinking of maddie doing something this altruistic (especially for Brody) is sorta difficult at this point;( maybe baptism will make all the difference. one can hope. lol.
That is so sweet of Bryson. I can already tell what kind of amazing man he'll be when he grows up. Almost got a little choked up there.
We too will be praying for Isaac. You must be so scared. We send you all our love & kisses.
This post almost made me cry! Oh, I hope EZ gets better soon. Baby surgery makes me so sad! I'm sorry :(
but you are lucky to have a son like B, he is so sweet to be willing to fast for his baby brother. What good kids you have!
I'm wiping tears from my eyes. It's days like those that make parenting worth every minute.
B has such a tender heart. It's amazing to think that eight really isn't that old but yet they have the ability to think of such mature things. He's truly one fine, big brother.
B, you are so tenderhearted and such a great older brother. I know through the prayers and fasting EZ will be healed, even if he is through modern medicine. You are also a great example to the other grandkids in our family and have already set a high standard for them to follow. Love you lots. Tutu
