BODYSTEP Launch

Every three months my head's in a tailspin and my ipod headphones are glued to my ears. I teach at two YMCAs and a Gold's Gym. And every three months we launch new music and choreography. I teach BODYSTEP™, BODYCOMBAT™, BODYFLOW™, and BODYPUMP™. I love these Les Mills programs! But that means I am learning four hours and 42 songs worth of new music and choreography every three months. Not to mention all the old stuff swimming around in my head to be reviewed and rotated in after launch. For every hour of class, I spend another ten hours learning and practicing. Basically... it's a lot of hours I spend on this crazy stuff!

Why do I do it? Sure, there's the obvious health benefits and free membership involved. And who doesn't want to inspire others to feel good in their skin? But then there's that other thing... adrenaline. All instructors know that rush. We put on the mic, turn up the volume, give that first cue, and all of a sudden... everyone's moving... fitness magic!

Happy 3rd Birthday, Luke!

"Worst Mom" Award

Poor L. I forgot his birthday... AGAIN!!! I've done this every year now. I remember halfway through the day and then I'm scrambling to make cupcakes and gather up random gifts for him to open. Someday he's going to be old enough where this could potentially scar him. For now, I am grateful he is three and completely oblivious.

Christmas Highlights

1. While we were driving home from the mall one day, Nate told us the one politically incorrect Asian joke he knew. "How do you know an Asian has broken into your home?" Answer: "Your homework is done, your computer's been upgraded, and they're still pulling out of the driveway." When we got home, Jason was sitting on the couch where we'd left him, still upgrading my computer.

2. Bruce and I decided to go on a date while Mom was here to watch the kids. Nate decided he was going to go, too... Mom and I were laughing about it when Nate walked in. He was like, "What are you guys laughing about?" Totally oblivious. Then later Nate overheard me telling Bruce that he was coming along with us. Things clicked into place for Nate, and he looked over at Mom and me and said, "Ohhhh...." Didn't change his mind or anything about going, though. Ten minutes later he (Nate) walked out of the bathroom with his nicer clothes on and his hair combed. "Wow, you look nice, Nate," I said. "Well, I thought since we're going on a date and all..." was his reply. He's like a 12-year-old trapped in a 17-year-old body.

3. Going shopping with Jason. He bought me an orange headband from J. Crew b/c he thought it looked good on me when I tried it on.

4. Mom and I were reading a birthday horoscope book in J. Jill. We looked up everyone's birthday to read about them. We got to Nathan's, something about him being a good planner, and Jason snatched it out of my hands and said, "This book is now obsolete."

5. Papa had gotten finger puppets while they were in Peru and he was so excited to use them on the boys for their bedtime stories.

6. Picture taking. Any picture taking that involved Nate or Papa. Hence the pics in the slideshow below, including Nate in his underwear. Freak. Nate's comment after every single pic he might have been in: "Lemme see."

7. Watching Nate and Jase shopping together at the mall. Jason scoffed at every article of clothing Nate tried on. A lot of "no way's" and "idiot", "dumb", and "stupid" were spewed in both directions. After a good hour in Urban Outfitters, Nate finally chose a black and white striped Mr. Roger's sweater (see slideshow below, he's got it on--got a lot of mileage out of it the last week they were here). "I don't care what he thinks," were the last words I heard before he trooped up to the cash register.

8. Playing speed scrabble with these guys. Nate and I dominated. It must've been all that www.freerice.com practice.

9. Nate met some guy from that TV show "The Big Bang Theory" and could NOT stop talking about it. Actually, that was just Nate's highlight. The rest of us were like, "Alright already!"

10. Dragging the boys out to go Christmas caroling on Christmas Eve. The boys were exhausted, Luke had a 102-degree fever, lots of screaming at the initial outset, but it was worth it. Aside from one drunk neighbor, it was a checklist experience. The "glad we did that" checklist.
